8 Months Sat in Dealers Workshop and Still Not Fixed. Can we Fix It? Yes We Can! 😁
I'm continually surprised by the shear incompetence of some supposedly professional motorcycle workshops. Follow along as we fix this Yamaha YZF1000 Thunderace that's stood in a dealers workshop for 8 months.

Real World Motorcycle AFR Testing, GSF1200 Bandit.
Most of my bikes are fuel injection but Ive gotca v old Suzi DR650 where I hope to be able to apply some of Jims teachings. Thank you for your super clear explanations Jim!
Great video and shame on those other motorcycle shops.
Why not give Speeduino a go and learn something new if you haven't done it before?
It's surprising how many " motorbike mechanics" Don't own a set of JIS screwdrivers
Just found you and subscribed. You are an amazing guy.
Nice one, superb sound as you test rode👏👍👌
Well done fixing what would be a near £1800 part if you can find one!...
That’ll be main dealers for you😡
If there ws no WAFFLAGE PAL then we would't learn anything. Keep it up pal. You are the MAN. The garage that FAILED on this bike REALY must know FUCK ALL about CARBED BIKES. THANKYOU.
I saw something similar on the Bearded Mechanics channel, not a V4 but a similar problem, carbs spotless, compression to the moon, still had internittent missfire! (When hot !) It turned out to be pick up coils. He too had problems with new components after fitting new pick-up coils (From ebay) which turned out to arse! fitted a set of pre-owned ones, problem solved. Could this be your problem too?
Bike looks awesome 👍
There are people who claim to be bike mechanics. Then there are Bike mechanics. There is a massive difference between the two. I found a great number of problems were solved with a thorough carb clean.
Ahora si👌
Wish I would have watched this before I cleaned mine I missed the air holes but thank you for this vid
This channel is worth its weight in gold !
Thats what you get when you go to the main stealership 😂
Keep the waffle we enjoy it
Clogged fuel system, common problem with bikes that get laid up for more than 6 months without a run up. Ask me how I know ;-)
Thanks Jim Awesome !
I would not trust some of these techs with a Briggs n Stratton on my mower
Very interesting to see, I think my MK1 bandit needs a carb fettle starts good runs good in all gears until your between 5-6 k on the revs then she has a felling of dying and then after a tad more throttle she's back on track weird. Thanks for the upload and information 👍🏻👍🏻
Knowing who did the work could save countless bikers a real pain trying to get there bike fixed.
a good tip if you are laying a bike or mower, or generator up for a period of time, is to run the tank almost empty, then switch the fuel off and let the engine suck the carbies dry. the low compression that cleared probably because with the engine stopped, it is likely one valve somewhere is not closed on the cam, and may get surface corrosion through carbie or exhaust over time, and will clear when cycled a few times.
Just a thought and only if possible, the air intake sucks air in so wouldn’t you want to blow it out rather than in?
I see YT are taking the pi$$ with the length of advertising on folks channel today.
I know you've mentioned previously that you don't watch bike channels much but never the less I have a couple of recommendations 'Brick House Builds' for vintage Hondas and mods. ''2Vintage' for 2,3 and 4 wheel offroaders. Both channels show excellent fault finding and repair down to complete rebuilds.
There's life jim but not as we know it great work!!
I love these videos, look forward to them every Friday. You’re a hero Jim. You know what I’m trying to say, come on get your words out Dale ffs
Potential life saver for remote riders. Archived in the old grey matter - thanks
2:15 looks like a bad case of “JIS-screwdriver denial”….
Lovely bike. It was my first ever bike I bought new, same colour as well.
Good job , but wat can we amateur technican`s use for cleaning the jets ?
Nice one Jim. I took my thunderace to you after watching your other thunderace videos. 💪
This is the best motorcycle repair channel on UA-cam. Thanks!
The guy to watch to actually learn something. I like the bearded mechanic too but for entertainment.
Top notch Jim love it
At first I thought this was going to be another Vmax story. And we have a successful conclusion.
Top man👍
Fuckin subscribed
Are you able to troubleshoot KTM 690 2016? I'm trying to fix it and have no idea what is wrong with it. After 2 month only in a garage it didn't want to start. It was cranking okay but didn't start at all I've bought 'engine starter' and spray it directly into throttle body. It started so I knew it is fuel related issue. I've found that fuel filter broke and leaking fuel so there was no pressure at all. replaced. From now on engine started but I had to rev it to keep it going. I've replaced a fuel pump. From now on it was starting okay and it was keeping idle without touching throttle at all but once revved the rpm are going down very slowly...It keeps around 4k for few secs and then returning to normal... I've cleaned an injector, replaced throttle body 3 times (including injector and pressure sensor) replaced fuel few times, replaced spark plugs (there's 2 for 1 cylinder motor) accidentally I've burned ECU when testing relays. I've replaced it and... revs start returning to normal... but the bike doesn't have a power. It accelerates like a 125 not 690 and can't get to the max revs when on gear. I've replaced throttle it self. No changes After 30 minutes of riding around, revs begins to stay high again... around 4k I've tried to locate leak of air between throttle body and the engine by spraying 'engine starter' around. no luck. I've found small screw between the throttle body and the engine regulating idle rpms probably. It is fully closed... but when I open it a little bit and rev the engine it keeps reving it self even higher (5k rpm) so I''ve closed it again. I've measured a resistance of all cables going from every sensor I've found and they looks good < 1 Ohm. I've found one cable which were damaged but after fixing it it didn't change anything. The other symptom is that the exhaust pipe is getting red hot after 30 seconds of engine running... I've checked all error via tuneECU. No errors found. I've checked timing. Looks ok. I've bypassed lambda for tests (resistors). No change I've checked valve clearance. Intake valves are in spec. Exhaust valves are like 0.03 loose (I don't think it should matter but who knows) I have no more ideas what to do? Any help appreciated
Patreon and the discord. Good chaps.
Too old for the little chimp that only knows efi
Jim, when you take on these tasks which the customer claims have been with a dealer or independent, you should make contact with that place a requirement. Get the story from both the customer and the mechanic that way. It will likely help cut down on your time and will reveal any lies told and billed for, when you get to work.
A mate of mine has one, he calls it the thunder sofa 😅
Awesome I am subscribed cheers Jim
good work Jim, hope you replaced that missing choke slider bar cross head domed screw and plastic washer? come on give us a clue re the carb cleaner mix please
Well spotted, but it doesn't have a screw there. That's completely normal as strange as it seems.
I have a Cbr600 f4 last of the carbs before fuel injection. I have cleaned the carbs balanced then bike runs good but I'm unsure when wanging the throttle open it very momentarily bogs hear the rumble intake sound but like I say it's very brief and the bike revs up fast and cleanly. Is this normal or do I need to go quarter turn in or out on The pilot circuit? IV yet to set it up via Haynes manual instructions I'm sure it's close 🤷 if you was local I'd give you more work as you know your sxxt 👍 im Cornwall
Brake fluid looks dark and dodgy 🤔
Just subscribed, it's nice watching someone that knows what they are doing
I have an FZR600... the carbs are always worse on the left hand side, where the fuel sits due to the side stand. I always ley mine up after emptying the bowls (run the bike with the gas tap off until it stalls on its own).
Worked on my Thunderace during lockdown. Plugs were a bloomin nightmare. But bargain bikes.
Gd stuff mate👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
